Sweetwater Creek State Park

A state park west of the city where red-dirt trails follow Sweetwater Creek past the ruins of a nineteenth-century textile mill. The Red Trail to the mill is the classic route, and the rapids below the ruins are the payoff.

It is a surprisingly quick escape from the city for how wild it feels. Pack water and go on a cool morning for the best version of it.
