Lake Conestee Nature Preserve

A reclaimed wetland park south of downtown where boardwalks and dirt trails wind through swamp, forest, and open meadow. It is flat, quiet, and full of birds, which makes it the easiest nature escape in the county.

The observation decks and benches reward slow laps rather than distance goals. Bring binoculars if you have them, and bug spray in summer.
