Crowders Mountain State Park

A pair of quartzite peaks rising from the piedmont about thirty miles west of the city, with trails that climb to rocky overlooks with long views. The Pinnacle and Crowders trails are the classic routes, and both earn the name.

It is the closest thing to a real summit day without heading to the mountains proper. Go early on weekends; the parking lots tell you how popular it is.
